About Steve
Steve is a Torquay, Australia based painter whose work draws deeply from the abstract world around him. From the city to the coast, Steve draws inspiration and interprets that energy and colour into his work.
His work is represented in collections across Australia and abroad.
Steve has been creative for most of his life. Working in the graphic arts industry leading design, photography and production teams has given him the experience and skills to create his art.
From his home studio he conjures thoughts that drift and settle and there’s always something waiting just under the surface; a flicker, an image, a thought.
For Steve, it’s about connection and the invitation is open for others to make that connection. When someone does that with a piece, that’s the magic.

Wherever you are in a big city, Uptown represents the abstract forms and geometric shapes in soothing earthy tones. Soft edges paired with crisp, defined lines create a balanced, playful rhythm across the canvas. This modern, relaxed piece brings a calm, contemporary energy.
Morakai
91.5 x 91.5 cm
Acrylic on stretched canvas and framed in natural Tasmanian Oak
The sharp lines of 1960’s internal spaces had me reimagining Hawaii 50 and others. Geometric shapes, cool blues, greys and warm ochres came to my mind in this modern abstract.
Through the Wire

With its modern expressionist style, this piece brings a playful yet thoughtful energy, making it a great fit for any space that needs a touch of creativity.
Menindee
78 x 103 cm
Acrylic on stretched canvas and framed in natural Tasmanian Oak
The patterns and shapes of the dry season are quickly forgotten as the water floods the rivers and plains bringing with it new growth and prosperity albeit with some destruction and inconvenience to man but a blessing for wildlife. This piece is a reminder of the dry and the struggle to survive.
Mannerim

Mannerim is a farming community at the centre of the Bellarine Peninsula that overlooks Port Phillip Bay and onward to the south past Queenscliff to Bass Strait.
Other Views
62 x 39 cm

The rolling hills and winding rivers are always made up of these geometric shapes. The warm, earthy tones of the sky contrast with the lush greens and rich browns of the fields below, creating a sense of harmony and balance.
Mallee Salt Pans

An aerial view of the diminishing salt pans of northwest Victoria with all their shapes and colours stretching out on the flat dry landscape.
Hindmarsh
110 x 140cm
Oil on stretched canvas
Flying over the wide-open spaces of north-eastern Victoria and recalling the patterns in the landscape made by water, erosion and of course man. The colours change with the seasons but the harsh, rugged conditions remain.
The Lighthouse

Rockpools Point Danger
62 x 52.5 cm
Acrylic on stretched canvas and framed in natural Tasmanaian Oak
Long summer days clamoring over rocks and seaweed to see what little delights have been trapped by the outgoing tide. Will it be a crab, or maybe a starfish; no just a broken shell, on to the next rockpool.
Wasteland

Acrylic on timber panel and framed in natural Tasmanian Oak
Another abstract view of imaginary lands near and far that invite you to connect with your life’s travels and imagination.
Cosmos 2
33 x 40 cm
Acrylic on timber panel and framed in natural Tasmanian Oak

Souls Rise
43 x 53 cm
Acrylic on stretched canvas and framed in natural Tasmanian Oak
The intention here was to create a small brightly coloured piece to fill that small wall space we all have but don’t necessarily know what to do with it. Makes me smile just thinking how many I have in my own house.
Days and Ways
120 x 90 cm
Acrylic on canvas
This is an abstract landscape piece inspired by the backstreets and laneways of my youth.
Sometimes harsh, sometimes soft but always with an underlying connection. I particularly like this style and the way it sparks discussion about the contents and how it is interpreted.
False Creek
64 x 94 cm
Acrylic on timber panel and framed in natural Tasmanian Oak
Inspired by the city of Vancouver, Canada with its intricate waterways, bridges, entertainment and wonderful people. From Granville Island at the entrance to False Creek, past Yaletown and up to the science museum located right next to the Olympic village, this city has the lay back feel of a small town.
